Why did you choose Loughborough University?
Loughborough was the most respected university to offer such a specifically aviation-based degree.
What attracted you to the University in the first place?
I loved the idea of a campus university and being on a small course with a more personalised learning experience.
What do you enjoy about your course?
I enjoy applying theory to the industry and also the various modes of transport that are covered.
What do you think of the teaching quality and facilities?
The teaching quality has been very good. Lecturers are extremely knowledgeable on various modes of transport.
Do you have a particularly favourite project/module on your course? Why did you enjoy it?
My favourite modules have been the aviation specific modules. We are currently studying Airline Operations – this is an area of work that I would like to go into in the future, so I am finding it very helpful and interesting.
What are some of the exciting/different things you can do on your course?
We have been on field trips to London to look at a variety of transport modes and how they work.
Have you completed a placement whilst at University?
My placement year was completed at British Airways on their Head Office Industrial Placement Scheme. I worked at London Heathrow as a Business Executive, assisting my manager with the 10 British Airways Lounges. I gained valuable experience in project and stakeholder management. At the end of the placement I signed a contract for a graduate position on the British Airways Leaders for Business Scheme starting in September 2016.
What do you hope to do when you graduate, and how will your Loughborough degree support this?
I will start a graduate job at British Airways in September 2016. I believe that having such a specific degree gave me a significant advantage over other applicants, due to my passion and knowledge about the aviation industry.
What would you say to someone considering your course?
If you are interested in transport this is the degree for you. It covers all the fundamental aspects of business management but is directly related to the transport industry, which makes it really interesting. It is also a great talking point in interviews – everyone is very interested in why you chose such a specific degree!
How do you find the social atmosphere on campus?
I am part of the transport society (Velocity) at Loughborough and we have been on trips to Barcelona and Hamburg. In Hamburg we went to the Airbus factory and saw the A380 in production, which was fascinating. These experiences were a great supplement to my degree.
What do you enjoy the most about being a Loughborough University student?
I enjoy the social aspects of Loughborough most, especially the Student’s Union.
Has Loughborough inspired you?
Studying at Loughborough University has taught me that I can achieve anything I put my mind to. Studying a subject that I am really passionate about has enabled me to achieve higher grades than I ever thought I would be able to ascertain.
