Communication: Digital Signal Processing for Software Defined Radio

27 February 2017 - 10 March 2017

This course is for practising engineers in industry and commerce who wish to understand the theory and implementation of digital signal processing, for software defined radio.

The contents include various signal processing techniques required for software defined radios.  At the end of the module, the students should be able to implement and assess key signal processing algorithms for software defined radio in MATLAB; and have an appreciation of their application in industrial and research contexts.

The contents include key signal processing operations with modems.  Fourier analysis and linear time-invariant systems. Digital transmission systems. Sampling and discrete time systems. Multirate signal processing. Random processes and adaptive filtering with particular focus on least mean square (LMS) and Recursive Least Squares (RLS), algorithms and their applications.

If you wish, you may take the assessment and accumulate credits towards a postgraduate award.

Assessment is by Coursework and Exam

If you wish to take the assessment in this module a booking must be made by early January.

If you are not taking the assessment a booking of at least 3 weeks prior to the module start date is required.

This module is a component of MSc in Digital Communications, Mobile Communications.
