Young Adult Carers in Learning

There are currently over 314,000 known Young Adult Carers aged 16-24 in England Wales. Knowing how to support this cohort and provide them with the tools that they require in order to succeed with their studies is crucial to their progression to Higher Education.

Loughborough University and the University of Leicester are delighted to be working alongside colleagues at the Learning and Work Institute to offer a free training course for those staff members supporting Young Carers through their education.

After completing the training attendees will:

  • Be aware of the needs and experiences of Young Adult Carers
  • Be familiar with procedures and policies for Young Adult Carers and how these may impact work within their own institutions
  • Develop an understanding of the resources available to support Young Adult Carers
  • Have an opportunity to share best practice with colleagues from other institutions
  • Hear from a Young Adult Carer about the challenges and successes in their educational journey

The training will take place on two different dates; 13th October: 8.30 – 13.00 (University of Leicester) and 15th November: 9.30 – 14.00 (Loughborough University). Places are initially limited to one per institution* and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Lunch and refreshments will be provided on the day, please notify us of any dietary and/or access requirements at the time of booking.
