This programme explores the umbilical link between theory and practice, providing training in the conduct of international relations and applications of research appropriate for the study of diplomacy within the context of international governance.

Programme information

You will learn in an environment tailor-made for the development and honing of diplomatic skills in one of the world’s greatest cities and home to 163 Embassies and High Commissions.

Our students are challenged to acquire a critical awareness of the New World Order and how this concept relates to current issues involved in the study of diplomacy, learning from the past to deal with the challenges of the future.

Core study areas include: diplomacy: policy, practice and procedures; emergency simulations; diplomatic discourse; foreign policy analysis; an individual project (which can be a dissertation or business plan or placement project).

Optional study areas (choose two modules only): economic global governance; the politics and practice of the European Union; economic diplomacy; diplomacy and religion; cultural projection and perception.

Subject Enhancement (choose one module only): design thinking; media and creative industries: context and practices; media and creative industries: critical perspectives; introduction to mobile internet and media clouds; leadership models and practices; principles of entrepreneurship and innovation; management skills.

Assessment

Modules are assessed by a combination of essays, group exercises, presentations and time constrained assignments. Subject to your choices, there may also be exams.

Entry qualification

Minimum of a lower second class honours degree from a UK university or equivalent overseas qualification recognised by Loughborough University.

English Language requirements: IELTS 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each subtest (Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking) or equivalent.
