Essential information
How to Apply
The best way to apply for admission to a taught or research programme is online.
This allows us to process applications quickly, and provide you with a good service. Your application must be supported by documentary evidence of entry qualifications (including English language where appropriate), academic transcripts and references.
You are strongly advised to send your documents, including transcripts and references, as soon as you make your online application. A decision about your application cannot be made until we receive your supporting documents.
Application forms can also be downloaded from this website.
Applying for a taught programme
Some schools/departments require submission of a personal statement or additional information before they are able to consider your application. We strongly advise you to check details of your chosen programme before submitting your application.

If an application fee is not paid within eight weeks, the application will be withdrawn.
The application fee should be paid by going to the University on-line store.
To pay the application fee via the On-line Store you will be asked to set up a new account and password. This is not the same account you set up to create your on-line application, but to make it easy to identify your application, you should use the same email address when you set it up.
If you have any questions or concerns about the application fee, please see our Information for Applicants or contact the Postgraduate Taught Admissions office.
Applying for a Research Programme
When you apply for a research degree you will be required to describe your proposed area of research.
This should usually be in the form of an initial research proposal of approximately 500 words, including an outline of your research interests, your initial thoughts about a topic, references to previous work, the methodology and general approach you wish to take.
You should also indicate how this research will make an original contribution to knowledge. Some schools/departments require you to complete a more detailed proposal before they can make a final decision on your application. Check to see if this applies to the department you are applying to.
If you do not have a firm research proposal you should still provide as much information as possible with your application including possible topic areas, and intended source of funding.
If you have already reached an agreement with your prospective school/department about a particular topic, or are applying for a specific vacancy, you need only provide brief details of that project on your application form.
If you require further advice on how to complete your research application please contact the department in which you wish to study.
