Standards of teaching on postgraduate programmes have been ranked very highly and are delivered by subject area specialists.
Academics, both established and new researchers, have an impressive research record and are well regarded in their fields of expertise and the Department benefits from associations and friendships with a number of important international organisations.
Masters students who choose to study in the Department will benefit from small group teaching and will have ample opportunity to interact with other students and with staff and to develop a range of academic and personal skills.
There are opportunities to participate in the Department’s lively research seminars and the student-led colloquia. Plus, there is the possibility of visiting London and Brussels to see Europe’s key institutions and to meet alumni and friends of the Department who have used skills developed on the Master’s programme to launch their careers in a wide range of governmental and non-governmental settings.
“Many times when one is doing a PhD one might want to give up but in this Department I have met very supportive people who show interest in my work and this has been great.”
Raffaella Bianchi, PhD
The Department has an enviable PhD completion rate and an excellent record in research supervision.
Every PhD student is provided with office space, generous IT support and financial assistance to help bring their research to fruition.
Our friendly and active research student community is built on exchange and dialogue with other students and with academic colleagues in Loughborough and elsewhere.
There are opportunities for research postgraduates to supplement research income and to develop teaching skills through training and the delivery of undergraduate seminars as well by assisting in a number of other Departmental services.
