Information and Knowledge Management MSc/Diploma
1 year full-time (9 months Diploma); up to 3 years part-time
Information and Knowledge Management (IKM) have become central concepts adopted by organisations worldwide.
The recognition that we are now in a knowledge economy and society, and that those organisations that will survive and prosper must engender a knowledge culture, has led to an explosion of interest in IKM and of careers requiring expertise in IKM.
This programme is designed to provide a sound grounding in the principles and practice of IKM. It will give students a comprehensive set of skills for employment in the public, private and voluntary sectors in the field of IKM, and also in the broader areas of information science and business analysis. All modules are compulsory.

- Database Structure and Design
- Principles of Information and Knowledge Management
- Information Architecture
- Research Management for IKM
Semester 2
- Information Retrieval for Knowledge Management
- Web Design and Web Analytics
- Business Intelligence Analysis
- Leadership and Change Management
- Dissertation (full-time or part-time)
Assessment
MSc: coursework and dissertation. Dissertation involves supervised, but self-directed, study.Diploma: coursework.
Entry Qualification*
Minimum lower second class honours degree or equivalent in any subject. Basic skills in ICT, particularly Windows-based applications. Relevant work experience would be an advantage. All applicants must meet the Department of Information Science’s minimum English Language requirements.

All applicants resident in the UK are invited for interview.
Careers and Further Study
Can lead onto jobs such as information and/or knowledge managers in the public and private sectors, management consultants, research analysts, or information managers.

UK or EU Member States students with an offer of a place may be nominated for an AHRC Professional Preparation Master’s Scheme studentship. The Department also offers scholarships to UK/ EU students with outstanding academic track records and to international candidates who can demonstrate substantial contribution to the profession.
