The primary teaching objective is the provision of a balanced choice of high-quality programmes concerned with the theory and practice of computing, that meets the needs of the computing and information technology industries for graduates who combine a strong academic background with highly developed practical, managerial and communication skills.
Our success in doing this is reflected in our excellent record of graduate employment and in the National Student Survey where the Department is consistently highly ranked.
“There is everything I could want or need to do my research. I am especially glad that the department has real networking equipment so I can have real hands on experience.”
Askar Jaboldinov, PhD
Significant capital investment has enabled the refurbishment and re-equipment of our principal teaching laboratories to a high standard.
All systems are networked within the Department, to the campus network and to computer networks world-wide.
The Department’s facilities are operated and maintained by our team of systems managers, programmers and technicians. The Department is engaged in major research programmes and holds research grants from the UK Research Councils, the UK Government (TSB), and the European Union.
The research undertaken in the Department is balanced between pure research and collaborative ventures with industrial partners, serving to strengthen and inform the teaching process, as well as identifying future developments in computing.
