Life at Loughborough
We are committed to providing our students with every opportunity to achieve their full potential – professionally, intellectually and socially. The Students’ Union and Loughborough University Arts offer plenty of ways to get involved and unwind after a busy day.
The Students’ Union
Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU) is the driving force behind the UK’s best student experience. Loughborough students are at the heart of everything we do, from providing opportunities to experience new activities and challenges to outstanding entertainments and events. Having a good degree from a prestigious university is just one step to launching a great career; getting involved in university life also provides opportunities to develop valuable transferable skills and experiences, and we are here to help you make the most of your time at Loughborough.
Whenever decisions are being made that affect you, especially about your education, we are always on your side influencing the right people in the right way. Postgraduate students are represented by the Postgraduate Development Officer, who works alongside other members of the LSU executive team.
We also work to promote positive health and wellbeing for all students and, alongside the university's Support Services, can help with everything from exam stress to finding accommodation.
Outside of your academic studies, we offer five key strands for you to become involved in; Rag charity fundraising, community Action volunteering, the Media centre, the Athletic Union and our Societies. They offer you unforgettable experiences that will stay with you for life.
You can also join us for our regular trips across the UK- a great way to meet others studying at Loughborough, and perfect for international students who want to take in the sights! Our list of destinations includes London, Liverpool (including the Cavern Club), Cadbury World in Birmingham, Manchester Christmas Market, Chester Zoo and many more.
The Union building
The LSU building is a fantastic hub of activity that is buzzing with students both in the day and at night. The central Piazza is a lively meeting place with a coffee shop and milkshake and crepe bar.
The building is also well equipped with other amenities like a Chinese restaurant, a hairdresser, an optician, a dentist, a taxi rank, a pharmacy, sports massage and beauty salon.
Loughborough University Arts
LU Arts is the University’s lively arts programme, offering you a wide variety of art events and creative development opportunities.
Our events include concerts, National Theatre Live screenings, talks, spoken word and workshops and they all take place on campus. Venues include the 260-seat Martin Hall Theatre, the 220-seat Cope Auditorium and the Students’ Union.
If you are looking to get involved and develop your own creativity, then you’ll love to hear that there are many opportunities open to you. You can join the University Choir or String Orchestra, receive subsidised music tuition, apply for the yearly Music Scholarship or just use the music rehearsal rooms.
There are classes for pottery, painting and drawing, a book club, a performance poetry night called Speech Bubble and much more.
LU Arts also includes Radar, a contemporary arts strand, where we invite artist to respond to research. These projects allow people to engage with research in a completely different way that usually combine artistic outputs and discursive events like talks, workshops and seminars.
