Advanced Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) for China Partnership Students

Information for China Partnership students studying in the following Departments:

  • Department of Chemical Engineering
  • Department of Materials
  • Department of Physics
  • Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering

If you are planning to undertake a China Partnership programme in the UK in in one of the above disciplines, you will need to acquire an ATAS certificate before you can apply for a Visa, Entry Clearance (EC) or Extension of Stay (EoS).

For more information please visit the ATAS website

Who needs to apply for an ATAS certificate?

You need an ATAS certificate if:

You have an offer to study a China Partnership programme in one of the subject areas below:

  • Department of Chemical Engineering
  • Department of Materials
  • Department of Physics
  • Department of Mechanical Engineering

You do not need an ATAS certificate if:

You have an offer to study a China Partnership programme in any other subject area.

How to Apply

You can submit an application once you have received the official Loughborough University offer letter, as the information needed to apply is in your letter.

Once you have your offer letter you should go to the ATAS Website where you will be able to apply online.

Please email direct@lboro.ac.uk if you have any further questions.

Core and Optional Modules

ATAS also require information on the modules for the programme you have an offer for. Loughborough University has informed ATAS of the core modules for these programmes but you will also be asked to provide a list of the optional modules which you may want to take when you register as a student. If you are not sure what optional modules you will want to study, include the titles of all of those you are interested in. You will not be required to choose the specific modules until you arrive and register at the University.
