Student finance
All fees and charges are due immediately upon registration at the University. Fees (including tuition, accommodation and other charges) are payable at the Income Section of the Finance Office on receipt of invoice.
Tuition Fees
Tuition Fees can be paid manually up-front when you register at the University or in automated instalments (there are three instalment dates: November, January and May). You will be invoiced at your Term Address for all charges so it is important that we hold the correct details for you. All manual payments will need to be made at the Income Office in Hazlerigg Building.
If you are expecting to borrow your fees from Student Finance England (SFE), Student Finance Wales (SFW), Student Finance Northern Ireland (SFNI) or the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS), they will pay the University directly provided you are eligible and have given them the correct information.1 If you are expecting to have your fees paid for you by a sponsor, they will be invoiced directly and you do not need to worry about paying them yourself.2

Surcharges and Penalties
Interest at the rate of 3% may be levied on the balance of your account if it is still outstanding four weeks after the beginning of each term, unless you have made a suitable arrangement to pay your fees by instalments. Furthermore, if you are in debt to the University you may be excluded from tuition and assessment and/or your University residence. Returned cheques and refused direct debits will incur a £25 penalty.
Late Registration Fee
A late registration fee of £100 may be levied on:
- new students who have not registered with the University by the end of the first week of their programme.
- returning students who have not registered by the end of week one of Semester One.
- students who have missed the published deadline for registering for reassessment.
Late Module Registration Fee
A late module registration fee of £100 may be levied on students who wish to change their module registration more than two weeks after the start of the relevant semester.
Permitted Repeat Attempt Tuition Fees
Students who have been permitted to repeat assessments on a first attempt basis as a result of a successful claim for Impaired Performance will not be liable for tuition fees for modules that are being repeated.
UK Undergraduate and PGCE Bursaries and Scholarships
The University offers a number of bursaries and scholarships for eligible UK undergraduate and PGCE students:
- Loughborough University Undergraduate Bursary
- Loughborough University Undergraduate Bursary for Mature Students
- Loughborough University PGCE Bursary
- Loughborough University Care Leaver Bursary
- Merit-based Year of Entry Scholarship (for undergraduates)
Further details, including terms and conditions can be obtained via the following webpages:
The Bursaries and Scholarships Team (tel: 222477 or bursaries@lboro.ac.uk) can assist with enquiries about bursary or scholarship entitlement and related payments to students.
Hardship
From time to time there will be cases of hardship in which students, through no fault of their own, are temporarily unable to pay their account when it is due. If such difficulties arise, you are strongly advised to explain your circumstances to the Finance Office Income Section. In certain circumstances the surcharge may be waived, provided that such cases are brought to the attention of the Finance Office within the first four weeks of the relevant term. The University also has some funding made available to assist students who are in financial difficulty. Information about the Access to Learning Fund is available as a University web page and also from the Student Advice and Support Service located in the Student Support Centre
Fee Status
The Admissions Office can assist with enquiries regarding home or overseas status for tuition fee purposes.
Placement
Tuition fees are also payable during any term in which you are placed in industry or elsewhere as part of a programme placement. The sandwich year fee for UK and EU students* in the 2011/2012 session is £690*. The fee for an international student placed in industry will be £2300 for the 2011/2012 session†. Some exceptions apply.
Further details about Tuition fees and financial support can be found in the Tuition Fees and Financial Support website.
* Excluding Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
† Please contact the International Office for further details.
1 It is vital that the information held by SFE, SFW, SFNI or SAAS exactly matches your Loughborough Student Record because the payment process is automated and is only triggered when these details match. Any discrepancy may result in a delay to your tuition fee and you may be invoiced for the fee amount. You must give the correct cost of the course you are taking. If you change programme, year or repeat a year you should notify the relevant organisation. Contact details can be found on the right of this page.
2 You will need to provide the Income Office with proof that your sponsor has agreed to pay and this should be a formal letter from them on headed paper. Failure to provide this will result in you being liable for the fees yourself.
