Safety - Keeping your bike in safe and roadworthy condition

Re-adjust or replace brake blocks when they start to lose effectiveness. Replace brake cables if you notice any signs of fraying.
Keep well inflated. Replace when the tread becomes worn: as well as having poor grip, a worn tyre is more easily punctured.
Investigate any unusual noise - it may be indicating something in need of repair. Make sure that there is nothing loose that could get caught in a wheel.

Bike shops service as well as sell bikes. For example, Cogz bike shop on campus charges 25 for a basic service and around 10 to replace a flat innertube.
