Mervyn Stokbridge-Gould, who died of heart failure on 4 November 2009, was born in Ingoldsby, Lincolnshire, on 14 November 1946. He trained to be a teacher of history but his love of the entertainment business soon led him to abandon a career in education for work in the professional theatre.
