New ID Card

December 8, 2010

The University is in the process of installing a new campus-wide door access system to replace the various systems currently in use in buildings across campus.

This new system has already been installed on SportPark, in the student halls of residence and in the Haslegrave building and will be rolled out to a limited number of other buildings before Christmas. Occupants of those buildings will be notified in advance.

The rest of the University’s buildings will be changed over in the new year and it is anticipated that the car park/entrance barriers will be updated in early February.

The new system is a Mifare proximity-based system and the technology required to operate it is embedded within the staff and student ID cards. Staff will therefore require new ID cards to operate the new door access system.

To obtain a new card, you must upload a recent photo of yourself via the website. You will be notified when your new card is ready for collection. You will be required to wear this ID at all times, unless Health and Safety dictates otherwise.

If you would like a professional photograph taken for your staff ID card please contact Design and Print Services on 222190.

You are advised to obtain your new card as soon as possible, and preferably by the end of January 2011. The deadline is 31 March 2011.

The new staff ID card also brings additional benefits. You are able to load cash onto it, which you can then use to buy food, beverages and other items sold in imago shops and retail outlets including The Piazza in the Students’ Union. As an introductory offer imago Services will give you an additional 10% on the first amount of money you load onto your card.  Further details can be found at online, by calling 223601 or going into the Student Accommodation Centre.
