Travel bursary awarded for creative Tel Aviv trip

May 12, 2010

Multi-media textile design student Amy Bear has received the School of Art & Design’s Dennis Holt Travel Scholarship for a creative trip to Tel Aviv.

LUSAD_Amy BearAmy, who is currently in her fourth year, travelled to Israel to gain inspiration for her final major project and provide visual research to develop her drawing and CAD work.

Her interests are stimulated not only by the fantastic landscape and atmosphere of Israel, but also by the religious and political influences.

External relations officer Nikki Counley explained how Amy’s application made her a wprthy recipient.

“The selection panel were unanimous in their decision in selecting Amy,” she said. “Her proposal was very thorough, giving a clear plan and timetable as to what she intended to achieve from the trip.

“The information that she recorded will feed directly into her Final Project, enabling her to expand her image base, introducing first hand and original studies which will in turn further her education.”

The Dennis Holt travel scholarship of up to £400 is awarded annually to a student of LUSAD. Students are required to submit a proposal stating the purpose for which the scholarship would be used and what would be achieved through the proposed travel, as well as a supporting academic reference.

The prize is awarded to a student or students who in the opinion of the Assessor Panel has made significant progress during his or her course, whose work shows a high degree of originality, and who has submitted the most meritorious proposal.

Amy was officially presented with her certificate by Professor Neil Halliwell today (Wednesday 12 May).
