Six Lightning players named in England Women’s Sevens Squad

An astonishing six Loughborough Lightning Rugby players have been named in England Head Coach James Bailey’s latest Women’s Sevens squad for the Howard Hinton Sevens international tournament in France from 1-3 June.

The tournament, which acts as a precursor to the final leg of the HSBC Women’s Sevens Series in Paris the following weekend, will see three of the six make their England debut.

Amongst the sextet are Loughborough University duo Lizzie Adam and Olivia Jones who have been part of Lightning’s successful first season in the Tyrrell’s Premier 15s. Civil Engineering student Adam will make her England debut in France, whilst Sports Management MSc student Jones is already a regular in the squad.

Sports Science student Celia Quansah makes the squad again, as does Emma Hardy. Last but not least are Megan Davey and Carys Williams, who like Adam will make their debuts when they take the field at the weekend.

Of his six players who’ve received the call up Lightning Head Coach Rhys Edwards said:

I am tremendously proud of all six ladies for their inclusion in James Bailey’s latest squad. As I’ve said before we aim to provide a professional, development programme here at Loughborough University that facilitates our players going on to play at international level. All six can be extremely proud of their selections and I have no doubt they’ll be a credit to Loughborough when they pull on the England jersey at the weekend.
