IT facilities

There are 165 PCs (excluding those dedicated to accessing Library Catalogue Plus) available in the Library with the majority of these located on the entry floor. The Library also has a wireless network throughout the building, enabling users to connect to the University's network from their laptops.

Saving your work

Please remember it's important that you save your work on a regular basis. Whilst some applications have an autosave feature this should never be relied upon.

You should avoid saving work to the PC desktop as any files created there will be erased when the PC is next used.

Guest access

The Library has a small number of guest accounts that you can apply for at the customer services desk. In order to apply for one of these guest accounts you will need to be 18 of age or over, have some form of official picture identification (e.g passport, driving license) and sign an acceptable use form.

Guest accounts remain active until midnight on the day it was issued. If you wish to use print or photocopy then you will need to purchase credits from the customer services desk. Please note that unused credits cannot be refunded.

The Library reserves the right to withdraw guest access at peak times.

The following software is available on all Lab PCs in the Library:

  • Internet Explorer (to access the Internet, webmail, Learn, University Intranet)

  • Standard Windows applications such as notepad, wordpad, calculator, etc.

In addition the following applications have been installed on the 12 Lab PCs in Training Room 2:

Q: Where can I get help on using software?

Many programs have built-in online help but you can also try searching Library Catalogue Plus for any manuals or guides that the Library may have in stock.

In addition IT Services have some self-help guides for Microsoft Office applications.
