European Documentation Centre

The European Documentation Centre is housed in the University Library of Loughborough University. It consists of an extensive collection of publications and documents of the European Union and has two functions:
- To support teaching and research on European integration within Loughborough University
- To give access to European Union information to members of other higher education institutions in the region and to members of the local community
What is in the European Documentation Centre?
The collection contains general information and background material on the European Union as well as a number of European Journals and statistical sources.
Access to the material is during the Library's opening hours.
Please note that a considerable amount of EU information is now available online.

General information on the EU
Europa: the official database of the European Union
European Commission Representation in the UK: The European Commission has offices, called Representations, in all the Member States of the European Union. The UK Representation is in London. It represents the European Commission as its voice in the UK by explaining the likely impact of EU policies and programmes. It also keeps the European Commission in Brussels informed about political, economic and social development in the UK. Its website contains information about its work and full text of some of its publications.
European Commission thematic index: Alphabetical index to EU subjects and information on the European Commission web sites that gives direct links to topics.

Summaries of EU legislation: This site gives approximately 3000 summaries of EU legislation in all policy areas.
Background information on the EU
Includes reports and studies on economic, social and environmental matters. Serial publications are shelved on Level 2 of the University Library at 328.4 (Serials). Monographs are classified by subject and distributed throughout the book collection. The Library has an excellent collection of scholarly monographs on all aspects of the European Union. Two important serial publications on the background of the EU:
- General report on the activities of the European Communities (Serials 328.4 GEN): Annual report of the European Union, with detailed account of EU activities.
- Bulletin of the European Communities (Serials 328.4 BUL): Monthly account of EU activity in four sections: special features; accounts of activity; main policy areas and documentation.
Library publications
A wide range of journals and newsletters produced by the EU are held in the University Library. They are shelved at 328.4 (Serials) and titles can be checked in Library Catalogue Plus. This list is not exhaustive – please browse the shelves at 328.4 (Serials) for further titles.

The EU Bookshop is managed by the Publications Office of the European Union and provides free and downloadable access to the European Union’s official publications.

- Eurostat (statistical office of the EU) and Eurostat yearbook: good general sources of EU statistics
- EU budget: figures for current and previous years
- EU economic and financial affairs: the euro, economic governance, etc.
- EU Regional policy
- EU trade: wide-ranging trade statistics including bilateral relations and economic sectors.
