Reading for Leisure - Student

Reading for fun and relaxation

Bogged down with recommended texts? Has reading for pleasure become a thing of the past for you? Well, how about recapturing the sheer joy of losing yourself in a good book?

Here at the Library we love recreational reading too! In fact, we’re committed to providing leisure reading books to suit all tastes as well as a forum for those who like to chat about reading. Check out the following to whet your reading appetite:

Leisure reading stock

The Library has a growing collection of leisure reading books in stock from award-winners and classics to graphic novels and easy readers. All Man Booker and Pulitzer prize winners from 2000 onwards are available for loan as well as a range of popular contemporary novels from authors including David Nicholls, Rosamund Lupton and Sarah Winman. Have a browse on Library Catalogue Plus via the tag option.

If English is your second language and you’d like to improve your English language skills, try our Oxford Bookworms which are available in graded language stages. You might also like to take a look at our stock of Manga graphic novels.

Student book club – COMING SOON!

Watch this space for news about our new leisure reading venture. Exclusively for students, it’ll be a fun and relaxed place to meet others who like to natter over novels! All books provided. We may even throw in some refreshments!

Did you know?

A report by The National Endowment for the Arts (2007) concluded that ‘Frequency of reading for pleasure correlates strongly with academic achievement’ (1)

So, up your academic game with a good book - another reason to reach for that chunky novel you’ve been meaning to read for ages!
