Who Should Attend?
This session is designed for academic and research staff.
Course Overview
This session will update staff on the range of new information sources and services available from their desktops. It will enable them to refresh and refine their information finding skills, as well as identifying sources to help them keep up-to-date with developments in their research field.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
1 identify resources provided by Loughborough
2 become familiar with latest resources
3 apply effective search techniques to minimise information overload
4 select appropriate resources to search e.g. Indexes and abstracts for finding different publication types
5 locate relevant sources for keeping-up-to-date, e.g. Zetoc, ScienceDirect
6 create alerts from selected sources
7 identify the range of options available to them for obtaining material, e.g. Sconul Access Scheme, Secure Electronic Delivery of journal articles, EThOS for theses.
Other Information
This session is recommended for all academic and research staff.
Please bring your Loughborough and Athens usernames and passwords. Examples used to illustrate particular concepts may be drawn from one subject area but the concepts discussed will apply to all.
