Who Should Attend?
This session is designed for first year PGRs who have attended 'Finding resources for your literature review and beyond - Theory'
Course Overview
This session allows participants to put the theory of literature searching into practice in a computer lab.
You will be able to test the search strategies and statements that have been developed in 'Finding resources for your literature review and beyond - Theory', as well as trying out citation searching techniques to further develop your knowledge of your research topic.
Expert staff will be on hand to facilitate the session and provide guidance on resources and strategies.
You will also learn the key skill of critically assessing the results that you can find to further develop your search strategy.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
- Select the resources appropriate to their research topic
- Search electronic resources available at Loughborough University
- Adapt their search statements to a variety of electronic interfaces
- Perform citation searches in Web of Science and Scopus databases
- Critically evaluate search results
- Evaluate and adapt their search statements
Other Information
This session is recommended for all new research postgraduates and relates to the Researcher Development Framework's Domain A - Knowledge and Intellectual Abilities.
Attendees must attend 'Finding resources for your literature review and beyond - Theory' before they attend this course.
