Who Should Attend?
This session is designed for mid-career and experienced PGRs. It is designed for research postgraduates who have attended the Getting Articles Published course and wish to practise using databases that can help them to select where to publish.
Course Overview
This session will highlight the importance of developing an appropriate and effective publishing strategy. It will demonstrate tools and databases that provide journal and bibliometric data and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of both the tools and the statistics. It will help you to develop appropriate publication strategies for raising your profile within your own research area.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
- recognise different disciplines and individuals require different publication strategies
- identify tools that list journals within your research area
- distinguish the strengths and weaknesses of bibliometrics, as a measure of research impact
- evaluate the citation impact of current research through the use of selected tools
- improve the visibility of your research through an understanding of the open access options available to you
- develop appropriate publication strategies for raising your profile within your own research area.

This session is recommended for all mid-career and experienced postgraduate research students and relates to the Researcher Development Framework's Domain D2 - Communication and dissemination.
