Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac

Instructions to install

We advise that you remove any previous versions of Microsoft Office prior to installing Office 2016 for Mac.

To check that your computer meets the system requirements for new Office, please visit .

IMPORTANT: You will be asked for your email address before installing the software AND again to activate it. Please enter your full email address first time, but when activating the software, you MUST enter it in the following format:



Office 365 Logon

Click and open the above link in a new window and follow the instructions below to install a copy of Microsoft Office 2016 on your device.


to Office 365 for Loughborough University

You will need to enter your full email address e.g. and then enter your Loughborough password and click on the Sign in button.


Redirected to the Office 2016 install page

Click Install. Depending on your browser settings you may receive a JavaScript prompt. If you do, click Leave Page

Download Folder

Launch the Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg file from your Download Folder.


Run the Office installer

Click Continue to start the install.

To complete the full installation of the programme, review and accept the License Agreement and wait for the installation to complete.



When the installation is complete, click Close. Word will open automatically. You may get asked if you wish to allow Word to add information to your confidential keychain. If you do, click 'Always allow'. You will need to do this when you launch each Office 2016 app for the first time. Click Get Started to continue



Sign in with username

Click Sign in and sign in using your Loughborough University username in the following format: and click Next.

Activate with password

Depending if student or staff, you will be redirected to either 'sign in' window. Enter your Loughborough University password and Click Sign In to continue.

Select a theme

Select preferred theme and click Continue


Setup complete

You have now successfully installed Office for Mac on your computer. setup is done, click Start Using Word to continue. The automatic update will appear, we recommend installing any updates they are prompted to install.
