Pay and rewards

Female staff

Let’s be frank, money matters. When looking at potential employers, salary may not be the only factor you consider, but it is an important one. Everyone wants to know that they’re being paid fairly for the work they do.

Competitive and fair pay

We offer competitive rates of pay and our fair and transparent incremental pay structure is designed to reflect the development of your skills and knowledge as you progress in your role.

All jobs are graded between levels 1 – 9. This grade reflects the level of skill and responsibility involved in your role and the salary bracket you fall into. Find out more about the different pay scales.

Salary reviews and increases

We have policies in place to ensure that employees receive an annual salary increase to reflect their growing experience and associated skills and competence.

Employees on grades 1-8 will progress by one pay point in their salary scale each year, until they reach the maximum pay for their grade subject to satisfactory performance. Senior employees grade 9 and above have their salary reviewed annually.

Reward Review Scheme

We believe our employees should be recognised for their hard work and contribution to the University’s growth and success. Our Reward Review Scheme helps us to deliver this.

The scheme recognises and rewards you with an additional pay increase when your effort and impact on the University exceeds what is expected. All employees receive an annual incremental pay increase as well as any cost of living increases. An increase through the Reward Review Scheme is in addition to this.

The scheme gives individuals who are at the top of their salary grade the opportunity to move beyond this, and those that haven’t to move further up the pay scale for their grade.

Lump sum payments are also used to reward outstanding employees. Similar to the Reward Review Scheme, the payments are made to recognise outstanding contribution or performance, but offer one-off cash payment awards of up to £1,000. They are used to recognise employees for short-term additional work or a one-off project and the amount awarded depends on the scope and nature of the additional activity that is being recognised.

Exceptional team performances and collaborative working are also rewarded, with a non-cash award such as a theatre visit, golf tournament, spa visit, dining experience or wine tasting – the choice is yours!
