Redeployment

The following information aims to provide advice, guidance and information about vacancies to staff who have been placed on the Redeployment Register.

Identifying Redeployment Opportunities

The University will proactively work with staff on the Register to find them an alternative role. Priority consideration will be given to these staff for any suitable vacancies.  Staff on the Register are asked to notify their HR Officer of their interest in any vacancy as quickly as possible.

All vacancies at the University will be advertised on the redeployment vacancies website for three days before being advertised more widely.  E-mails will be sent to staff on the Redeployment Register alerting them to the posting of vacancies at their current grade or roles which have been identified as possible suitable alternative employment.

Redeployment opportunities will usually be sought for staff on the same grade as their current post.  If an individual wishes to apply for a post on a higher or lower grade then they should contact their HR Officer to discuss how to progress this.

All staff placed on the Redeployment Register will be given access to the redeployment vacancies website.  Staff on the Register are strongly recommended when applying for a job via the online system to complete the Supporting Statement on the Candidate Summary Page to outline their suitability for each post that they wish to pursue to demonstrate how they meet the criteria specified on the person specification as part of the matching process.  If the job is Research and Teaching, Research, Teaching & Scholarship, Management & Specialist, or Technical Services 6 they can include this information in an additional attached document.

The University offers a wide range of support for staff on the Redeployment Register including ongoing access to the services provided by Staff Development, Counselling and the Careers Service.  It is recommended that staff on the Redeployment Register attend the course "Successful applications" - See Bespoke and Tailored section on Staff Development website for more details.

Information on Job Vacancies

Vacant posts will be posted on this website for three working days prior to being advertised more widely.  Staff on the Redeployment Register should notify their HR Officer of their interest in a vacancy as soon as possible to ensure they receive priority consideration for the post.

It is recommended that staff on the Redeployment Register visit this site frequently to check on new vacancies.

If a redeployee is interested in a role which is a grade higher or lower than their current grade then they should notify their HR Officer of their interest.

HR Contact

Each member of staff on the Redeployment Register will have received a letter which provides them with information about the redeployment process and details of a HR contact.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I know if I am on the Redeployment Register? - You will have received a letter from HR informing you that you have been placed on the register.  If you have not received a letter informing you that you are on the Redeployment Register and you feel that you should be, please contact your HR Adviser.
  • How should I apply for a role? - You should complete an online application form as soon as practicable after identifying a possible match.  Your HR Officer will forward this to the relevant manager for any role that is considered a possible suitable opportunity.  It is strongly recommended that you complete the Supporting Statement on the Candidate Summary Page to outline your suitability for the post clearly demonstrating how you meet the criteria specified on the person specification as part of the matching process.  If the job is Research and Teaching, Research, Teaching & Scholarship, Management & Specialist, or Technical Services 6 you can include this information in an additional attached document .
  • I have seen a job that I am interested in but I am not sure if I meet all of the essential criteria. What should I do? - It is recommended that you speak to your HR Officer who will assist you in assessing whether your skills and experience are a match for the essential criteria.  Please ensure you inform your HR Officer if you feel that any gaps in your skills and experience might be addressed by training.
  • I have seen a job that I am interested in that is a grade higher or lower than my current post.  What should I do? - An opportunity will normally be considered a suitable redeployment opportunity if it is the same grade as your current post.  However, it would be worthwhile expressing your interest in the post to your HR Officer as they will be able to advise you whether you need to apply in the normal way.  In some exceptional circumstances (for example where no suitable roles are available at the current grade) a post at one grade lower may be considered a suitable post.
  • I have been offered a redeployment post and it is subject to a trial period.  What does this mean? A trial period offers both the redeployee and the school/department to assess your suitability for a post.  The normal practice would be for any required training and development to be offered during this period as part of the induction to the new role.
  • I am in my trial period and I am not happy.  What should I do? If you find that you are unhappy in a role that you have secured via the redeployment process you should discuss this with your HR Adviser as soon as possible.
