Centre for Academic Practice off to a great start!
Over 100 colleagues from across the University attended the official launch of the Centre for Academic Practice (CAP) on Friday 3rd October.
CAP staff were on hand to explain the varied work undertaken by the Centre including the new Loughborough University Portfolio of Evidence, completed and ongoing projects and provision of expertise in e-learning.
Visitors were able to explore the UK Professional Standards Framework ‘wheel’: an interactive resource developed by CAP staff to demonstrate visually how teaching experience can be used to support an application for HEA Fellowship. Displays by previous Teaching Innovation Award (TIA) winners showcased a variety of teaching projects and reminded visitors that another funding round will be available from the Centre in early 2015.
TextWall also generated plenty of interest amongst visitors. This application displays text messages sent from students’ phones and provides academics with a very simple mechanism for eliciting ad hoc questions, comments or feedback. CAP staff believe that Textwall is a useful addition to those technologies that facilitate interaction in the teaching room, ranging from the familiar ‘clickers’ to newer alternatives that allow students to use their own mobile devices.
In delivering the opening speech, Professor Morag Bell, PVC(T) emphasised the crucial role of the Centre for Academic Practice in delivering the University’s Strategy and highlighted some of CAP’s achievements. CAP staff would like to thank everyone who helped make the event such a success!
