Access to Learning Funds
The Access to Learning Fund (ALF) is intended to assist students experiencing financial hardship, to continue with their studies.
You must be a home student to apply to ALF. It is important to make sure that you are eligible before completing the form.
If you are a full-time undergraduate student, it is essential that you have borrowed your full student loan entitlement, otherwise your application cannot be considered.
If you have any questions about home student status or other eligibility requirements, please first read the guidance notes provided above. If you remain unsure about whether you can apply or if you need help to complete the form please arrange an appointment with an adviser at the Student Support Centre.
Postgraduate Taught and Research students should complete the Postgraduate form.
Undergraduates, PGCE and Further Education Students should complete the Undergraduate form.
The guidance notes give information about ALF, how to complete the forms and how awards are decided.
The Sample Expenditure Budget indicates reasonable/acceptable spending levels for a student who considers that they are in financial hardship.
