EPSRC 2011/12 ADDITIONAL SPONSORSHIP FUNDS: DEVELOPING LEADERS PROGRAMME

Who can apply?

Applications are invited from outstanding researchers of any discipline, who are currently employed by the University as Lecturers or Research Associates. We particularly encourage applications from women.

What is the Developing Leaders Programme?

The Programme will comprise a set of activities designed to support early career staff in developing research leadership skills. An Introduction to Leadership event in late March will be followed by a (confidential) 360–degree analysis of each participant in relation to their strengths, weaknesses and development needs. They will receive one-to-one coaching and join an action learning set; these activities will run during April and May. Participants will have the opportunity to attend Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) events on campus, and partake of other training.

A key feature of the Programme is the provision of a Leadership Development Grant (£6000) with which participants will be encouraged to 'step outside their comfort zone'. A tangible output (e.g. research grant proposal) will be required. This will form the basis of a presentation before an invited audience, which may include representatives from the Research Councils and industry. For further details download the call document (updated 2nd March 2012).
