Supporters’ names set in stone for Students’ Union makeover

Grad Gift

Loughborough Students’ Union has officially opened its redeveloped front courtyard featuring bricks engraved with the names of more than 600 people who helped fund the refurbishment.

The £125,000 landscaping project, which has transformed the area in front of the Students’ Union building, has been financially supported by the Union, the University, and its Development and Alumni Relations Office GradGift Scheme 2011.

Hundreds of alumni, staff and friends of the University were invited to make a donation towards the renovation through the 2011 GradGift scheme, which saw gifts acknowledged with an engraved brick incorporated into the courtyard’s design.

Supporters were invited to see their bricks in situ at an official opening led by the University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Chris Linton and Students’ Union President Rebecca Bridger.
Rebecca Bridger, who bought a brick through the GradGift scheme, said:

“This project is a reflection of the partnership between Loughborough Students’ Union and the University that helps deliver our remarkable, unique and irreplaceable Loughborough experience.”

Professor Linton, who also supported of the project, added:

“Both the Students’ Union and the University share a vision to provide a fantastic experience to our students. Part of that is about continually improving the campus environment and this project has helped achieve that. I’d like to thank everybody who has made a donation that has helped this project succeed.”

GradGift 2012 is now accepting donations, and invites this year's graduating class, alumni, members of staff and friends of the University to mark their connection with Loughborough and help enhance the Loughborough educational experience for future and current students.

Donations will benefit the Loughborough Fund, which provides more than £170,000 to students and student projects each year.
