Residents invited to Olympics briefing

Loughborough University is inviting local residents to a briefing about Olympics related activity coming up over the summer.

The University’s campus will play host to training camps during the build up to the 2012 Olympic Games and the Olympic Torch Relay will pass through campus on 3 July. The briefing is designed to provide local residents with key information about these high profile events.

At the meeting University staff involved in managing the preparations will provide details of the activity coming up and the timescales involved, together with advice about the arrangements for access to campus and facilities that residents might sometimes use, such as the swimming pool.

Presenting alongside the University at the event will be Charnwood Borough Council and Leicestershire Police.  Charnwood will explain the importance of Olympic activity to the Borough and outline their involvement in the Torch Relay.  They will also outline the exciting range of events and activities open to the community linked to the Olympics that will take place within the Borough.  Leicestershire Police will provide information on the key policing arrangements and the part that local people can play to support.

The event will be of particular interest to residents living in the vicinity of campus, but is open to all.  The briefing will take place on Tuesday 15 May at 7pm in the Stewart Mason Building on campus.  No booking is required but to register an interest please contact: Maria Lahetko-Davies on 01509 222238 or email: M.Lahetko-davies@lboro.ac.uk.

Alison Barlow, University Community Relations Officer comments:

“Essentially it will be business as usual for the University over the summer and we do not anticipate significant disruption for people living close the University or in the wider community.  We did however want give local people an opportunity to find out what actually is happening on campus and are delighted to offer this opportunity in association with Charnwood Borough Council and Leicestershire Police.”
