Some of the biggest names in sport will be coming to Loughborough University in May to participate in three major fixtures being held on campus.

First up Loughborough Football will play a Tottenham Hotspur Under 18 team on Friday 4th May 2012.

It is the opening fixture in the brand new Loughborough University Stadium that has been built to create a permanent home for the football club on campus.

The Loughborough team have enjoyed another fine season, finishing in fifth place in the Midland Football Alliance.

Speaking of the event Loughborough Football Head Coach Stuart McLaren said:

“It is a fantastic way to open the stadium against one of the top clubs' in the Premier League. We are grateful to Tottenham for agreeing to bring up an U18 XI for the showpiece event.

“It really is an exciting time for the club and we are expecting the launch of our new stadium to be a special occasion.”

Also in the new stadium, on Wednesday 9th May League Division 2 North Champions Loughborough Students RFC take on the Barbarians, who will be coached by Loughborough University Hall of fame member Andy Robinson

The Barbarians have announced their squad which includes Loughborough graduates Chris Pilgrim and Will Warden alongside a number of international players such as James Arlidge, who played in the 2011 Rugby World Cup for Japan, and Rugby League legend Sean Long who now plays Union at Preston Grasshoppers.
