11 swimmers based at Loughborough University have received their selection letters from the British Olympic Association, to represent Team GB at the London 2012 Games.

The swimmers have qualified for the Games following a series of tremendous performances at the British Gas National Swimming Championships, held at the Aquatics Centre based in the Olympic Park.

Leading the way were Fran Halsall and Joe Roebuck who both won two national titles and qualified for three individual Olympic events.

In addition to the 11 selected from the Championships, Loughborough will also have Laurent Carnol competing at the Games representing Luxembourg.

Plus Emma Hollis set a Paralympic qualification time for the 400m Freestyle at the Championships and will wait to hear on a possible selection.

Ian Armiger, Director of Loughborough Swimming said:

“The Championships were a fantastic advert for Loughborough Swimming.  Not only have we seen a number of our swimmers qualify for the Olympics, there were also a number of personal bests and great swims from the Loughborough team.

“The success is very much a team effort, and demonstrates the versatility of our programme. We've put people on the team in all the different stroke disciplines and every distance bar one.

“We wish all of our Olympians well in the summer, and look forward to adding them to our roll of honour.”
