Graduate entrepreneur selected for prestigious design exhibition

Loughborough University graduate and entrepreneur, Amy Humphreys, has been selected to exhibit her home textiles collection at Top Drawer, the UK’s leading event for design-led gifts, lifestyle and fashion accessories. 

Amy is one of only twelve designers handpicked for ‘Spotted’ – a unique showcase of the UK’s new design talent at Top Drawer, which takes place at Earls Court, London from 13 to 15 January 2013.

Amy launched Amy Allwright Homeware after graduating in Printed Textiles in 2011.  Her first product, a pinny inspired by Mary Poppins’ Edwardian nanny apron, quickly stimulated demand, inspiring her to design and make a full range of homeware products.

Shortly after graduation, Amy was chosen as one of the first graduates to be supported by The Studio, Loughborough University’s initiative to help the business ventures of its recent creative graduates.  This has given Amy a two-year kick-start to her new business through use of the University’s textile studios, her own office space and a bespoke mentoring programme.

Amy’s debut collection, Elina, reflects her love of English Heritage, with a contemporary twist.  Her signature print of houses was inspired by the rows of Victorian terraces in Loughborough town centre which Amy then developed into the grander Georgian architecture of Bath and London. The collection also features a delicately drawn floral design.

Every item in Amy’s product range combines old-fashioned charm with modern practicality – something her inspiration, Mary Poppins, would strongly approve of!  There are a variety of pinnies, tea and cafetiere cosies, tea towels and mobile phone and tablet covers.

About Amy Allwright Homeware
Amy launched Amy Allwright Homeware after graduating from Loughborough University in Printed Textiles in 2011. Her passion for making things began with a ‘sew your own hippo bean bag’ given to her as a fifth birthday present but it was in Loughborough’s School of the Arts that she developed a flair for creating stunning hand-printed textiles and conceived her new business venture.  While continuing to upkeep her traditional craft of screen-printing, Amy has now developed a range of combination screen / digital prints making her collection more available to a wider range of customers.
