University Community Donations Fund provides New Year boost for community group

Local community groups have received a New Year financial boost thanks to Loughborough University’s Community Donations Fund.

In January the University sent out cheques to ten projects having considered bids submitted to its Education Fund just before Christmas.

Jon Walker, chair of the assessor panel for the Community Donations Fund comments:
“We are delighted to be able to give some support to the outstanding charitable and voluntary work that takes place locally, especially in these challenging economic times for many community groups.”

Cash is awarded from the Community Donations Fund in four rounds of funding each academic year.  The Education Fund – for projects very broadly educational in nature – is the first to be awarded.  Later in the spring bids will be invited to the Open Fund.  As the name of this fund suggests, there is no specific theme for the type of project that will be supported.  In the summer the University will invite bids from staff to the Inside Out Fund and cash from the Strategic Fund will be awarded by the University directly to a community group or groups following consultations with partner organisations.

The ten projects funded were:

Community Group

101 Performing Arts Group

Training and performance events for awards experience

To fund hardship places on camp trip for disabled children

Hathern Primary School – Busy Bee Club

To provide multi-sport dance and drama sessions/fund equipment
