University Community Donations Fund re-launched

Donations fund - July 2012

Loughborough University is delighted to announce arrangements for its Community Donations Fund for the 2012/13 academic year.

Established in 2009, the Community Donations Fund has continued to provide financial support to community groups and organisations across Charnwood as part of the University’s support for the local area.

So far £85,000 has been awarded to more than 130 organisations across the Charnwood region. A wide range of projects and activities have received support, including sports clubs, music organisations, residents’ associations, groups for women and those with special needs.

During the year the University will donate £25,000 through four separate categories within the overall fund. These include an Open Fund of £5,000 aimed at all community groups, the Inside out Fund of £5,000 aimed at University staff involved in community groups, and the Educational Fund of £5,000 for projects that are educational in nature.

As part of a strategic engagement project, a further £10,000 will be allocated from The Strategic Fund following a review of local needs. This will involve the University working closely with partner agencies such as Charnwood Borough Council and organisations within the voluntary sector to assess where the funding should be allocated.

The programme for the 2012/2013 academic year is:

Autumn Term: Education Fund of £5,000. Deadline for bids Friday 23 November 2012
Spring Term: Open Fund of £5,000. Deadline for bids Friday 15 March 2013
Summer Term: Inside Out Fund of £5,000. Deadline for bids Friday 7 June 2013

In order to be considered for support from the Donations Fund projects and organisations must be Charnwood based and non-political in nature.  In addition only specific or identifiable projects will be considered, rather than, for example, administration costs.  The University will look particularly favourably on projects or activities that increase engagement between the University and the Community.

For the Educational Fund, the University will take a very broad approach to assessing projects for funding, not just those associated with formal learning/educational development.

Community Relations Officer, Alison Barlow comments:

“The success of the Donations Fund over these past few years has been an immense achievement and honour for the University. To help address real issues in the community and meet a fantastic range of people dedicated to community involvement across Charnwood is a privilege and we look forward to contributing funding this year for the wide variety of local community groups.”
