A team of students from Loughborough University has helped Spanish car maker SEAT put a new perspective on its brand as part of a unique experimental marketing project.

The 10-strong team of students from the School of the Arts and Loughborough Design School were invited to help the Barcelona-based marque see itself from a different perspective and engage with its target audience in a new and exciting way.

The team had to pitch their ideas to a panel comprising SEAT executives and some of the biggest media agencies in the UK.

They produced a brilliantly conceived and executed video showing the manufacturing process for a ‘Slinky’ toy as a visual representation of SEAT’s new ‘Enjoyneering’ slogan, which will soon be available to view on the official SEAT YouTube channel.

SEAT bosses were so impressed by the strength of the Loughborough team’s creative concept and the quality of their finished film; they have entered into a three-year partnership with the University, extending the same opportunity to future groups of students.

Chris Stevens, Head of Marketing at SEAT UK, said: ‘When you’re involved with an organisation on a day-to-day basis it’s sometimes hard to view it as someone on the outside does.

“We therefore wanted to work with some of the country’s brightest young creative thinkers to see ourselves from a totally different perspective and engage with the wider public in a whole new way.

“Allowing a group of ‘unknown’ university students free rein to play with our brand identity – one of our most valuable assets – was a risky undertaking, but we were absolutely thrilled with the originality and energy of the work produced.

“In the case of the Loughborough team, we were delighted and very impressed with the content they produced and I’m sure we’ll look to incorporate it in our future marketing and promotional activities.

“We are also very much looking forward to working with the University and its students again over the next three years.”
