New ‘complex’ role for Loughborough academic

Professor Alistair Gibb

Professor Alistair Gibb from Loughborough University’s School of Civil and Building Engineering has been given a prestigious new appointment by the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) and the European Construction Institute (ECI).

He is now the ECI RAEng Professor of Complex Project Management, responsible for knowledge creation and best practice assimilation within and on behalf of ECI.

The Royal Academy of Engineering is Britain’s national academy for engineering, bringing together the country’s most eminent engineers from all disciplines to promote excellence in the science, art and practice of engineering.

The ECI is Europe’s only transnational learning and improvement network covering the entire project cycle for engineering construction.  Its members include major construction companies, contractors, specialists and support organisations interested in the management of key construction projects.

Professor Gibb is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Builder, joining the University in 1993 following a career in civil engineering and construction management.  He has been Loughborough’s Professor of Construction Engineering Management since 2004.

Since the Mid 1990s Professor Gibb has been closely involved with the ECI, mainly as Project Director of its Safety, Health and Environment task force.  He has led many health and safety research projects funded both by Government and industry, served on the London 2012 health and safety legacy steering group and led several research projects on the Olympic Park construction.  He also has an impressive research track record in technical innovation – particularly in offsite construction.  He is a founding member of the influential UK industry body ‘Buildoffsite’, and has led a number of overseas trade missions.

Speaking about his new appointment Professor Gibb said: “I am delighted to take on this role.  The ECI is a valuable organisation, dedicated to serving the construction community across Europe and I am pleased to be able to work with them in this task.”
