Loughborough confirms bursary package for 2012 intake

The Office for Fair Access (OFFA) has today confirmed an Access Agreement that will allow Loughborough University to continue to attract the best students irrespective of their personal wealth.

A new University-funded bursary package will provide:

In total, the University is expecting to provide almost £2million of financial support to students in 2012-13, rising to over £7million a year by 2015-16.

As part of its commitment to widen participation the University will extend its outreach programme to work with more schools, colleges, students and parents to ensure those with the potential to enter Higher Education are not deterred by the new tuition fees, which have been confirmed at £9,000 per year for full-time Home and EU undergraduate students starting their degree programmes in 2012.

Loughborough University Vice Chancellor Professor Shirley Pearce said:

“We are determined that the new fee level should not deter students from attending University. To this end, we are extending our outreach programme to work with more disadvantaged groups, and our support package will ensure qualified students have the opportunity to study at Loughborough, irrespective of their background or their ability to pay.”

Professor Pearce also added that income resulting from fees must be considered against the background of significant cuts to higher education funding.

“This will not be ‘additional’ income,” she said. “We do believe, however, a fee of £9,000 will help us to enhance still further the high quality of education and experience we offer Loughborough students.”
