Choral Composing Competition

In celebration of the forthcoming London 2012 Games and to pay tribute to Loughborough University’s reputation for sporting excellence, the University is offering a total of £3,000 in prizes for the composition of a ‘sporting anthem’ which will be performed by the University Choir at a concert in May 2012.

The main prize of £2,000 is open to both established and emerging composers to compose a new 20-30 minute choral work, with piano accompaniment (or orchestral/band arrangement with piano reduction).  The winning piece will be an uplifting celebratory score for a soprano, alto, tenor and bass chorus, in the tradition of great classical or pop anthems, and will celebrate Loughborough’s sporting tradition and success.

Two additional prizes of £500 are open to Loughborough University students and local school children studying GCSE Music, for a 2 minute crowd rallying song or chant which can be sung during University team matches.

The University is also delighted to announce that the judging panel will include Bob Chilcott, a leading contemporary British choral composer and conductor.

The deadline for entries is Wednesday 31 August 2011.  For more information, entry details and entry form visit http://www.arts.lboro.ac.uk/arts_on_campus/whats_on/ or email radar.info@lboro.ac.uk.   Information is also on the University Choir’s Facebook http://www.facebook.com/LUChoral
