Author and entrepreneur to speak to University students

Emma Jones

Emma Jones.

Author and entrepreneur Emma Jones will be sharing her knowledge and experience with students at Loughborough University this month.

Emma will be speaking at the University as part of Loughborough’s ongoing programme of Student Enterprise events, which gives students an opportunity to network and learn from successful entrepreneurs.

The Student Enterprise programme organises events, workshops and competitions to encourage and support entrepreneurial activity among the student population.

The final forum of the 2010/2011 academic year will be held at the Students Union at 6.30pm on Thursday, May 26.

Emma, founder of Enterprise Nation, the small business support company offering advice on business start up, will be the guest keynote speaker.

Emma started her first business at the age of 27 from a spare room in her Manchester home. Two years on, Emma sold the business and it was this experience that provided the inspiration for Emma’s next venture - Enterprise Nation.

Emma has written three bestselling books, including Spare Room Start Up: How to start a business from home.

She is also a founder of national campaign, StartUp Britain, a response from the private sector to the Government’s call for an enterprise-led recovery.

StartUp Britain offers support and advice to the 270,000 UK businesses that start up every year, helping to drive growth by accelerating, inspiring and celebrating Britain’s start-up talent.

It is fully supported by Prime Minister David Cameron and has so far gathered the backing of significant international brands including Barclays, BlackBerry, Experian, Intel, Microsoft, McKinsey & Co. and Virgin Media.

Student Enterprise Officer Amy Bowmar said: “The forum is open to all students, staff and public and refreshments are provided. It’s a great place to meet other enterprising people from in and around Loughborough and get up close and personal with a top entrepreneur.’’
