Loughborough University academics contribute to national home energy fact file

The recently published UK Domestic Energy Fact File – a collaboration between Loughborough University and two Cambridge consultancies – has highlighted that more than half of homes in Great Britain do not have sufficient insulation.

The document, released by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, draws together the most important data about the energy efficiency of the country’s housing stock.  It shows that around 50 per cent more energy is used to heat and power homes than is used to power UK industry.

The Fact File supports the Government’s plan to launch the Green Deal initiative next year.  Green Deal will provide loans to enable homeowners to improve the energy efficiency of their property.

Professor Kevin Lomas and Dr David Allinson, from the University’s School of Civil and Building Engineering, provided the expert review for the Fact File.  Speaking about the document Professor Lomas said: “The Fact File is a key reference for academics, Government officials and the many other organisations that need data on the energy efficiency of the UK housing stock.  Over 20 years of research involving the monitoring and modelling of UK homes enabled us to provide the technical support that the report’s authors needed.”
