Wheelchair users needed for online travel survey

Wheelchair users from across the world are being asked to participate in a Loughborough University study aimed at improving travel information for people with disabilities.

The Free Traveller project is being led by academics from the Loughborough Design School.  Its main aim is to use the experiences and opinions of wheelchair users to see how travel guides can be improved to make them more effective, simple and enjoyable to use.

To take part, and possibly win £150, wheelchair users or carers aged between 18 and 65 should visit the Free Traveller website – www.freetraveller.co.uk.  Here they will be asked to participate in a ‘virtual’ tour of London and complete a short survey, which will take around 30 minutes to finish.

Project leader Chris Parker said: “We know that there is a wealth of travel experience and knowledge out there in the wheelchair user community, yet at the moment no one is quite sure how to use it in the best possible way to help others.  With Free Traveller we hope to provide a way for this important information to be utilised to create travel information for wheelchair users that is enjoyable to use.”
