Enterprising students mark Global Entrepreneurship Week

Entrepreneurship Week

Students at Loughborough University took part in a week-long programme of events to mark Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW).

GEW is designed to support and encourage budding entrepreneurs interested in building the businesses of the future.

The programme of events at Loughborough was organised by the University’s Student and Graduate Enterprise programme - and by the students themselves through Loughborough Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE).

The SIFE group arranged the week’s final event – Silicon Valley comes to Loughborough. Friday’s event was designed to inspire students to consider an entrepreneurial career focused around the technology sector.

The afternoon covered sources of finance, ideas generation, networking, business planning and structures for growing businesses in the technology sector.

Loughborough SIFE President Peter Bailey said: “Silicon Valley comes to the UK (SVc2UK) is inspiring students from around the country to adopt a 'pro-enterprise' attitude. We were very pleased to play a part in bringing this to Loughborough to benefit the students here.’’

As well as marking Global Entrepreneurship Week, Loughborough University runs a year-long programme of extra-curricular workshops, forums and lectures to support student and graduate enterprise.

Earlier in the week, students attended extra-curricular workshops which covered subjects such as social media networking for business and entrepreneurial skills.

The University also welcomed Julie Meyer - one of the leading champions for entrepreneurship in Europe – who led an inspirational and educational forum.

Student Enterprise Manager Marina Pickles said: “We recognise the importance of supporting our students in this way, so that they become graduates who are highly employable and enterprising, whether they decide to start their own businesses or become valued employees within a company or organisation.’’
