Asics and Mizuno experts lead presentations at University Sport Technology conference

Two leading sports brands are supporting an international sport discipline focused conference to be hosted by Loughborough University later this month, with a public lecture also on offer.

The event is being sponsored by the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and will be held over three days from 23 February. The focus will be to bring together researchers from the UK and Japan to share research and explore opportunities for future research.

The highlight of the three-day event will be a public lecture presented by Asics and Mizuno on Wednesday 23 February from 5.30pm in The Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. Dr Tsuyoshi Nishiwaki, Asics’ Sports Science Institute General Manager will present on ‘Footwear design methodology based on human responses’ with Dr Takeshi Naruo, Chief Researcher at Mizuno, talking about ‘Technology for the development of new sports equipment’.

Professor Mike Caine, Director of the Sports Technology Institute, is looking forward to welcoming delegates. “It will be an exciting three days for the University and I am delighted to be welcoming leading academic sports engineers and industry experts from such high profile organisations. As well as the presentations and opportunities for discussion, we will also be conducting a tour of the University’s Sports Technology Institute, which boasts state of the art equipment and bespoke test rigs.  The expertise from the research group based here underpins many of the world’s ground breaking sports products.

“This symposium is a great platform from which to launch new partnerships and collaborations for new technologies for sporting applications and I am looking forward to sharing knowledge and ideas and taking these forward.”

The public lecture is free of charge and is open to members of the public with no registration required.

Loughborough University is the ideal venue for the symposium being internationally renowned for its sporting facilities and its world class Sports Technology Institute. This event further strengthens the University’s strong ties with Japan, with the University confirmed as the base and final preparation camp for Japanese and GB Olympic squads in 2012.
