Loughborough University wins award for mathscard® campaign

A pocket-sized information sheet that has been developed by Loughborough University to help school pupils improve their maths skills has won a national award.

The mathscard® which contains nearly all of the formulae relevant to the pure maths A-level syllabus, has won the Most Successful Campaign Award in the Pocket Media Awards 2009.

The awards programme, sponsored by PocketMedia® specialists Z-CARD®, allows the industry to vote on their favourite campaigns over a variety of categories for a one month period.

The Loughborough mathscard® was originally introduced in 2002 and since its creation it has seen a growing distribution year on year.

Abbie Bartholomew, the University’s Faculty of Engineering Marketing Officer who co-ordinates the A-level mathscard® said: “We’re absolutely delighted that the mathscard® has been recognised by this award and that it continues to be a success amongst teachers and students.

“As well as helping students through the rigours of the maths A-level, the mathscard® also gives them an insight into the exciting opportunities offered by a career in engineering.”

The 2010 mathscard® has already been a great success with over 90,000 requested by schools and students so far.  This figure equates to over half of those taking AS and A2 level maths in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

“The new mathscard® for 2010 has expanded and now includes more formulae than ever before, containing AS as well as A2-level content,” Abbie adds.  “We are now looking to the future when we intend to build on the campaign with other new media applications of mathscard®, such as mobile phone applications.”
