University and BHFNC team up for Active Club Festival

Loughborough University is hosting a free event on Saturday April 24th for children and young people to come and try their hand at a host of different sporting activities.

The British Heart Foundation National Centre for Physical Activity & Health, part of the University’s School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, will be holding its first Active Club Festival of the year on campus.

The event, taking place from 12.00am to 5.00pm, is open to children and young people aged 8-12 years. Organisers are looking for mixed teams of up to14, which means this is a great opportunity for any after school club, youth club, Guides, Brownies, Scout, or sports clubs to meet other children and young people and have a go at a variety of fun activities such as:

Target Throw; Soccer (double dribble); Towers; Speed Bounce; Basketball; Soft Javelin; Gran Prix Running Relay and lots more.

Active Clubs is a national programme managed by the BHFNC and designed to encourage more children and young people to take part in physical activity, particularly during out of school hours and particularly those who are inactive.

Festivals coordinator Anna Chalkley said: “To benefit health, all children and young people should be aiming towards doing at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day. We hope that the Active Club festivals will encourage children and young people to have fun getting active and to take more physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle.”

Registration is now open to any interested youth settings or activity groups to make the most of a great opportunity to provide a focus for physical activity and raise the profile of activity for health amongst young people and their families. There are prizes to be won as well as special guest appearances and spectators are welcome to attend.

If you would like to register a team you can contact Anjna Nagar on 01509 223329 or e-mail a.nagar2@lboro.ac.uk
