Aspiring authors to gain a lesson at Writing Industries Conference

Practising and aspiring book and script writers will be able to pick up valuable tips and advice at the second national Writing Industries Conference hosted at Loughborough University next month (Saturday 6 March).

Organised by Literature Network, Writing East Midlands and the University’s Department of English and Drama, the event will welcome a host of industry experts including editors from top publishers, leading literary agents and bestselling writers who will be on campus to share their knowledge and answer questions.

The one day event is for anyone with an interest in writing who would like to learn about the business of getting published, and for prospective writers wanting to know more about getting started and earning a living from the industry.

The Writing Industries Conference also covers writing scripts for film and television, designing stories for computer games and making poetry that people want to read.

Professor Elaine Hobby, head of the University’s Department of English and Drama, believes hosting such conferences highlights educational opportunities available for those passionate about pursuing a career in creative writing, whilst giving students past and present the chance to tap into industry expertise.

"We are pleased to confirm our status as an innovator in teaching creative writing by hosting the Writing Industries Conference for the second time,” she said.

“We offer sustained professional development to our writers, taking their career ambitions as seriously as we do their writing. We do more than simply help them write. For example,
this year students are working as volunteers and interns for the conference.

“I am also delighted that past and present students on our undergraduate modules and MA in Creative Writing have been awarded prestigious one-to-one sessions with professional agents at the event. Look out for Loughborough names in your bookshop soon."

The event runs from 9.30am to 5pm on Saturday 6 March and tickets cost £42 per person. For more information on the conference programme and guest speakers or to book your place email wic2010eastmidlands@gmail.com or log onto: http://writingindustries.com
