Loughborough swim stars head for Swansea showdown

Ross Davenport

Ross Davenport in action for Great Britain

Loughborough University's top swimmers will be doing their bit for the red white and blue when they join the Great Britain team to take on Germany this weekend.

A total of 12 Loughborough swimmers will travel to the Wales National Pool in Swansea fresh from their resounding victory in the Men's Women's and overall team British Universities Championships in Sheffield.

One of the most mouth-watering head-to-heads of the weekend will see Loughborough's Ross Davenport face German World Champion Paul Biedermann.

Davenport said: "I am really excited to swim against one of the world's best swimmers. You always want to compete against the best competition possible and this meet is giving me that opportunity. I obviously want to beat Paul [Biedermann] but I am going to be interested to see how I fare."

"It is the first time that I will be competing in a team event in this format and I'm really excited to be part of the team and it'll be good to be fighting for points for the team.

"It is great to have such a high quality German team to compete against. They have sent the best that they possible could and I think it will be interesting to see how the Brits do."

The Loughborough contingent also includes Daniel Fogg, who won gold on Monday in an open water 10k race in South Africa following his silver in the open water Midmar Mile at the weekend. In the women's 10k, Loughborough's Sophie Casson claimed silver.

Loughborough's contingent in the GB squad for this weekend is as follows:

Men
Ross Davenport
David Davies
Daniel Fogg
Joe Roebuck
Liam Tancock
Grant Turner

Women
Joanne Jackson
Caitlin McClatchey
Amy Smith
