Successful city careers underway for Loughborough graduates

Three Loughborough University graduates are well on their way to successful careers after they won places on a London-based company’s first ever graduate recruitment programme.

Excelian Ltd is a highly successful specialist IT consultancy that works worldwide with investment banks and has taken on 12 graduates this year as part of a new programme. And with three of those highly coveted places going to Loughborough graduates Stephanie Price, Husna Patel and Toni Evitts, it demonstrates the employability of those who graduate from the University. All three graduated this summer with degrees in Computing and Management, Chemistry and Sports and Exercise Science respectively

“We work very hard to prepare our students for their careers and give them the best possible chance to succeed in getting a post in the career of their choice”, said Jenny Jones of Loughborough University’s student Careers and Employability Centre. “Many of our degree courses include a year’s work placement and these can offer invaluable experience to graduates looking to start their careers.

“These three female graduates are excellent ambassadors for Loughborough University and epitomise what we aim to achieve for our students. We wish them all the best in their future careers.”

Jeremy Ward, Chief Executive at Excelian is delighted to welcome the Loughborough graduates on board at an exciting time for the company as it opens additional offices in Tokyo and Sydney. “We were looking for maths or science based graduates with a 2:1 or above, preferably with a year in industry. We had numerous applicants apply for the 12 places and those who succeeded were very strong candidates. They are now undertaking a 12 week intensive training programme with a view to then placing them in their first client site based project shadowing one of our mid level to senior consultants.

“It is the first time we have run such as scheme as we would normally only recruit highly experienced specialists, so it is a testament to the successful candidates of the strength of their applications, their experience undertaken during their degree and our confidence in their abilities. Graduates can offer a business fresh thoughts and ideas and the three we have taken on from Loughborough are bright, innovative, ambitious and driven individuals and this mirrors our ethos as a company. Their career progression opportunities here at Excelian are second to none and we look forward to watching their development over the coming months.”

Loughborough University has also recently held a successful Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair where over 120 businesses attended hoping to attract some of the UK’s brightest graduates. Loughborough is one of the top 20 universities targeted by large, graduate employers, according to the Graduate Market report published by Higher Fliers. Many of the University’s courses are designed and sponsored by industry, which means that Loughborough students develop the knowledge, skills and qualities required by business.
