University Community Donations Fund re-launched

Loughborough University is delighted to announce arrangements for its Community Donations Fund for the 2010/11 academic year.

The Community Donations Fund was originally launched in 2009 and so far £35,000 has been awarded to more than 60 organisations from across the Charnwood region.  A wide range of projects and activities have received support, including sports clubs, music organisations, residents’ associations and groups for women and those with special needs.

The full programme for the 2010/11 academic year is:

Autumn Term: Educational Fund of £5,000.  Deadline for bids Friday 26 November 2010
Spring Term: Open Fund of £5,000.  Deadline for bids Friday 18 March 2011
Summer Term: Inside Out Fund of £5,000.  Deadline for bids: Friday 10 June 2011

A further £10,000 from The Strategic Fund will be allocated during the course of the year following a review of local needs as part of a strategic engagement project.  The University will once again be working closely with partner agencies such as Charnwood Borough Council and organisations within the voluntary sector to assess where the funding should be allocated.

In order to be considered for support from the Donations Fund projects/organisations must be Charnwood based and non political in nature.  In addition only specific or identifiable projects will be considered, rather than, for example, administration costs.  The University will look particularly favourably on projects or activities that increase engagement between the University and the Community.

For the Educational Fund, the University will take a very broad approach to assessing projects for funding, not just those associated with formal learning/educational development.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Shirley Pearce comments:

“It was a privilege and an honour to present some of the Donations Fund cheques last year and meet a whole range of people dedicated to community organisations across Charnwood.  We are very much looking forward to being able to help out again this year to address real issues in our community.”
